PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has announced that the Kemaman by-election will take place on Dec 2. Nominations for the by-election will be held on Nov 18, while early voting is scheduled for Nov 28, said EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh on Tuesday (Oct 17). A total of 100,470 individuals are eligible to cast their votes in this by-election.
The victory of former MP Che Alias Hamid, who represented PAS in the 15th General Election, has been annulled by the Terengganu Election Court on Sept 26. The ruling was made by Judge Dautk Anslem Charles Fernandis, who stated that corruption was evident during the Kemaman polls in GE15. The petitioner, voter Wan Mohamad Hisham Wan Abdul Jalil, provided sufficient evidence to prove the occurrence of corruption with the intention of influencing voters in GE15.
In GE15, Che Alias secured the Kemaman parliamentary seat with a significant majority of 27,719 votes in a four-cornered contest.
