JOHOR BARU: The Community Development Department (Kemas) is updating its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes to stay relevant. According to director-general Datuk Ahmad Kamal Idris Mohd Nawawi, this is being done to ensure that the skills and exposure offered to students are in line with the needs of the country and industry players.
Ahmad Kamal Idris Mohd Nawawi states that “We have been offering TVET training for years, and the time has come for us to improve it and make it more relevant to current demands.” He also mentions that previously, certificates were not offered to those taking Kemas modules, as it was considered part-time learning, but now they are working with the Skills Development Department to offer the Malaysia Skills Certificate to those who complete the course, all part of the Kemas TVET 2.0 transformation.
Ahmad Kamal Idris Mohd Nawawi elaborated that “We are also updating and synchronizing Kemas’ modules to fit the current demands, as well as engaging with industry players to adapt our modules accordingly.” Furthermore, the director-general stated that the Wanita Inspirasiku (Wins) program, which he was officiating, is part of an effort for women entrepreneurs to share their experiences and knowledge. He mentions that the program started in 2019 and has already benefited 6,011 women.
Through the Wins program, women entrepreneurs who underwent training under Kemas are gathered to share their experiences and knowledge, as well as attending talks filled with useful information that could help them expand their businesses, according to Ahmad Kamal Idris Mohd Nawawi.
