KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has been captivated by a roadshow that aims to foster an interest in science, particularly among the youth.

Large crowds have flocked to the tour’s three legs held at Kimanis, Kalabakan, and Pensiangan.

The Kembara Sains Borneo (KSB) Series Two 2023 event, a joint effort by the National Science Centre and Malaysia Sciences Academy, has already attracted over 22,000 participants.

Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Arthur Kurup shared that the first day of the show in the Pensiangan district brought in 3,000 visitors, pushing the combined total attendance in the three districts to 22,408.

“With this achievement, we have exceeded our target of 10,000 visitors,” he announced at the closing ceremony in Nabawan, Pensiangan.

“With two more days remaining until Sunday (Oct 1), I believe the number will nearly double,” added Kurup, who expressed his delight at the overwhelming response in all locations and emphasized the value of the data and feedback collected.

“We can consider organizing this program regularly to instill a culture of science, technology, and innovation among the people,” suggested Kurup.

Mismah Jimbun, the director of the National Science Centre, stated that the roadshow, themed “Science Is Fun,” provides the local community with an experience similar to visiting a real science center.

Prior to arriving in Pensiangan, the show had taken place in Kimanis from Sept 15 to 17 and Kalabakan from Sept 22 to 24, according to Jimbun.

“We have prepared a variety of engaging and interactive activities for visitors, based on the ‘hands on, minds on, hearts on’ concept, to introduce science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to them in an enjoyable manner,” she explained.
