In Petaling Jaya, Nazieha Jasnie, a student from Keningau Vocational College, has been chosen as one of the top 50 finalists for the Global Student Prize 2023. This award comes with a chance of winning US$100,000 (RM445,000).

Nazieha, who is specializing in bakery and pastry, has been utilizing her skills to assist the community, particularly housewives and female farmers, by teaching them how to make different types of affordable cakes and desserts. Her purpose is to help them create a source of income through their own businesses.

To support her peers’ participation in baking competitions nationwide, Nazieha has actively taken part in various fundraising events. Additionally, she has led her teams to engage in numerous competitions and conferences.

Furthermore, Nazieha has established a successful cookie business named “Tiaa Cookie.” The profits from this venture enabled her to travel to Bali in 2022 and participate in an innovation contest.

Being the only Malaysian finalist, Nazieha has achieved recognition for her outstanding contribution to her peers and society. She was selected from a pool of 7,000 nominations and applications representing 150 countries worldwide.

Expressing her gratitude, Nazieha declared, “This award acknowledges the relevance of vocational education in today’s world.”

Alesyah Asa, a student from the same college in Sabah, made it to the top 10 for the same award last year. The Global Student Prize is presented annually by the Varkey Foundation and Chegg.org.

Keningau Vocational College director Christine Stanislaus Kinsik expressed her pride in Nazieha’s achievement and believes it will reinforce the employability of vocational college graduates.
