KUALA LUMPUR: National mixed doubles shuttler Tan Kian Meng has denied any involvement in match-fixing.

Partnered with Lai Pei Jing, he addressed the issue in an Instagram post following allegations linking him to such unethical behaviour.

“I want to clarify that I am ‘clean’. I have never been involved in match-fixing activities throughout my badminton career,” he wrote on his Instagram on Saturday (Oct 26).

“For those who have heard rumours about this involving me, please understand that it is not true,” he added.

Record-wise, the Kian Meng-Pei Jing duo appears to be struggling, having failed to advance past the first round in their last five tournaments.

Kian Meng stated his deep passion for badminton and his commitment to playing for the emblem on his chest.

“I play badminton because I love this sport. I play for my family, my wife, my country, and my career,” he said.

“Thank you for your support,” he concluded.

Pei Jing previously announced their withdrawal from the Kumamoto Masters tournament scheduled from Nov 12 to 17 due to an injury Kian Meng recently sustained.

However, they plan to return to compete in the China Masters set for Nov 19 to 24.
