Australian rapper Kid Laroi, who was unable to perform here after the Good Vibes Festival was cancelled, gave an impromptu performance at a hotel bar in Sepang for lucky fans on Saturday (July 22).
Despite being slated as one of the main performers at the festival, Kid Laroi found out about the cancellation upon arriving in Malaysia. Disappointed but determined to make it up to his fans, he took the opportunity to perform at the Sama Sama Hotel where he was staying.
The atmosphere was electric as a crowd of fans gathered around the singer, cheering him on as he belted out several of his popular songs. Kid Laroi later expressed his gratitude to the hotel for allowing him to stage the impromptu performance, taking to social media to apologize for the festival cancellation and profess his love for Malaysia.
Videos of the performance quickly made their rounds on social media, with fans praising the artist for his dedication and talent.
The Good Vibes Festival, scheduled to take place from July 21 to 23, was abruptly canceled on Friday (July 21) following an incident involving Matty Healy, the lead singer of British band The 1975. During his performance, Healy made a statement against Malaysia’s anti-LGBTQ laws and kissed his male bandmate on stage, further expressing his displeasure with expletives in his speech.
In response to Healy’s actions, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced the cancellation of the remainder of the music festival.
