In Sabah’s south-western Kimanis, the air quality levels have reached unhealthy levels due to numerous localised fires, as reported by the Environment Department website.
As of 11pm on Wednesday (March 13), Kimanis registered an unhealthy air pollutant index (API) of 125, which continued to increase to 155 API by 1pm on Thursday (March 14).
While Kimanis is facing this issue, the rest of Sabah, including Kota Kinabalu, is experiencing moderate air quality levels ranging from 75 to 81 API. Labuan recorded an API of 57 to 61, Tawau at 52 to 54, and Sandakan and Keningau are not affected by the haze.
Firefighters are actively working to extinguish bushfires, jungle fires, garbage fires, and peat fires in the region, according to officials.
