KUALA LUMPUR: According to the police, a woman’s brother-in-law, who was initially charged with conspiring in her gang rape, is now also allegedly involved in raping her.
The unemployed man was first charged on Sept 8 at a Sessions Court at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex here with conspiring with accomplices to commit the gang rape.
Wangsa Maju OCPD Supt Ashari Abu Samah said their investigations revealed that the suspect was also one of the five men who raped the 26-year-old victim.
“The suspect was initially charged under Section 375B of the Penal Code on Sept 8, and we will now be amending the charge to Section 376(1).
“The suspect and four others, who were arrested, will be charged in court tomorrow,” he said when contacted.
He added that the five men were believed to be under the influence of drugs during the rape, which took place at a house in Wangsa Maju.
According to reports, the woman was awakened from sleep, gagged, and tied up by the five men before the incident occurred on Aug 30. One of the suspects allegedly recorded the attack.
On Sept 2, the police arrested a 29-year-old man, identified as the victim’s brother-in-law, in front of a restaurant in Jalan Rampai Niaga 5, Wangsa Maju.
The suspects were able to enter the house because the brother-in-law had allegedly instructed the victim to leave the door unlocked earlier.
The other suspects were arrested between Sept 7 and 9.
