The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has expressed his appreciation to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for his role in the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sarawak and Sabah. The King commended Najib and his administration for their efforts and hopes that the highway will be built to high standards and quality. The statement was made during a state banquet in Kuching on September 12, held in conjunction with the Royal family’s Kembara Kenali Borneo tour.
Al-Sultan Abdullah stated that he personally drove a distance of 2,192km from Tawau to Kuching during the tour, which took nearly 85 hours. He expressed his satisfaction with the condition of the highway and compared it to Dubai and riding on a rollercoaster at times. The primary objective of the Kembara Kenali Borneo tour was for the King to gain a closer understanding of the people, way of life, and development in Sabah and Sarawak.
The King also expressed his intention to return to Sarawak in 2030 if possible. The Kembara Kenali Borneo tour, which began on September 3 in Tawau, concluded on September 13 at KM0 in Telok Melano, near Kuching.
