PUTRAJAYA: Macho Kingsley, the American Shorthair-persian cat also known as King Oyen, made quite the impression during the rehearsal for the 2023 National Day parade on Monday (Aug 28), despite not being an official guest or participant.
Accompanied by her owner Siti Zalifah Abdul Aziz, King Oyen, dressed in Jalur Gemilang-themed clothes, songket, and sunglasses, took a bicycle ride to Dataran Putrajaya at 6am to bring some excitement to the upcoming National Day celebration on Thursday (Aug 31).
Visitors who came to witness the preparations for the National Day parade were thrilled to see King Oyen. Many captured photos with the cat and enjoyed the parade, performances, and aerial display by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).
Siti Zalifah shared that her four-year-old cat is obedient and has been enjoying bicycle rides since 2020. King Oyen is very friendly and photogenic, making it easy for people to bond with her.
“The outfit worn by the cat is specifically to enhance the National Day atmosphere. This spirit of independence is not only for us but also for King Oyen. Last year, King Oyen celebrated National Day at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur, and this year, she will be in Dataran Putrajaya,” Siti Zalifah told Bernama.
Observing King Oyen’s high patriotic spirit, Siti Zalifah noted that the cat patiently waited for hours under the blazing sun to watch the parade rehearsal.
King Oyen gained popularity on Instagram and TikTok for her videos showcasing different outfits. In February, the cat received attention on social media when she went cycling with celebrity Alif Satar in Bukit Tunku, Kuala Lumpur. King Oyen currently has 4,873 followers on Instagram.
The theme for National Day 2023 is “Madani Malaysia: Determination in Unity, Fulfilling Hope.” The event will include 10 components such as Nationhood, Unity, Malaysia Madani, Economy, Banking, Telecommunications, Creative Industry, Community, National Sports, and National Welfare and Security, as reported by Bernama.
