KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah have extended their congratulations to former secretary-general of the Foreign Ministry, Tan Sri Rastam Mohd Isa. This comes after Rastam was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star by the Emperor of Japan on Tuesday (July 11). The announcement was made on Istana Negara’s Facebook page on Wednesday (July 12) where Their Majesties expressed their joy and pride. The prestigious award serves as recognition for Rastam’s exceptional contribution to both Japan-Malaysia bilateral ties and the nation as a whole, further highlighting Malaysia’s ability to produce outstanding individuals of international standards.

At the age of 72, Rastam was bestowed with the prestigious award as a testament to his efforts in strengthening Malaysia-Japan bilateral relations. The conferment ceremony took place at the official residence of Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia, Takahashi Katsuhiko, on Tuesday. The award was presented in recognition of Rastam’s significant role in expanding economic relations between the two countries through the Japan-Malaysia Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). This agreement has not only stimulated the economies of both nations but has also improved the business environment and increased investment opportunities.
