More than 120 players of the Sultan Ahmad Shah (SAS) Malaysian Veteran Hockey Association were hosted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at a special reception at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (Nov 9).
Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah was also present to celebrate the success of the veteran hockey team.
The president of the association, Tengku Arif Temenggong Tengku Fahd Mua’adzam Al-Marhum Sultan Ahmad Shah, was also in attendance.
At the ceremony, Al-Sultan Abdullah presented plaques to 20 players aged above 60 for securing third place in the Tokyo 2022 World Masters Championship that took place in October last year.
Tengku Fahd described the event as very meaningful for the association and expressed gratitude for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s support.
In his speech, Tengku Fahd expressed his honor and the trust placed in the association by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and emphasized the importance of unity and inclusion through sports.
He also noted that the hockey team would be competing in the Asia Cup tournament in Hong Kong the following month and showed confidence in their ability to retain the title.
He also mentioned the upcoming World Cup in Auckland, New Zealand, and the association’s participation in it next year. – Bernama
