KUALA LUMPUR: The King of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim, and Queen Raja Zarith Sofiah performed the Aidilfitri prayers at the Surau Utama, Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (April 10). Their Majesties arrived at 8.23 am, accompanied by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Cabinet ministers.
The prayers were conducted by Istana Negara religious officer Datuk Munir Md Salleh. This was the first time Sultan Ibrahim performed the Aidilfitri prayer at Istana Negara after becoming the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Jan 31.
The sermon delivered during the Aidilfitri prayers, titled “Hakikat Kemenangan,” emphasized the importance for Muslims to use the festive period to strengthen community relationships. It was also highlighted that Aidilfitri is a time to improve relations among Muslims and to refrain from spreading rumors and accusations against each other.
Munir urged Muslims to remember that they are all brothers, and that even small misunderstandings can have a significant impact on relationships. He encouraged individuals to work towards reconciliation and peace among conflicted Muslim communities.
Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Zarith Sofiah then greeted the congregants and attendees of the Aidilfitri gathering, which included the Prime Minister, Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and foreign dignitaries.
