THE kitchen of a needy family received a welcome upgrade, thanks to home improvement retailer MR DIY Group Bhd.

The family of six, residents of Hicom People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Shah Alam, Selangor, were the lucky beneficiaries of the retailer’s social outreach initiative to help underprivileged Malaysians.

Volunteers from MR DIY Cares, the retailer’s social outreach team, cleaned, refurbished, repainted, and organized the kitchen.

They also applied a fresh coat of paint, added new kitchen appliances, organized and added storage racks, baskets, cutlery holders, floor mats, container jars, and rubbish bins, as well as spin mop and broom.

In a press statement, the organization said the family had been going through some hard times as the father was suffering from a slipped disc, leaving the wife Siti Fatihah as the sole breadwinner.

Thanking the team for the makeover, Siti Fatihah said, “I love the transformation, especially the new appliances and tools, which will certainly make cooking and cleaning up much easier. I truly appreciate this kind gesture. It means the world to us.”

In a parallel program, MR DIY Cares volunteers recently delivered 10kg bags of rice to 25 deserving families at Bukit Jalil PPR, Kuala Lumpur.

Commenting on both initiatives, a MR DIY spokesperson said they owed their success to the loyalty and commitment of Malaysians across the country.

“It is therefore only right we extend a helping hand to those in need.

“We regularly help PPR communities around the country by supporting their needs in different ways, whether it is upgrading their homes, or supplying them with everyday essentials.”
