KOTA KINABALU: Thieves engaged in the act of stealing metal fittings were apprehended by city police at an abandoned construction site in Kota Kinabalu. The police successfully detained 15 individuals, including two women, at the Tanjung Lipat site, which had been left unused for six years. The operation was executed at 3.15pm on Monday, October 30th, by the Kota Kinabalu police chief, Asst Comm Mohd Zaidi Abdullah.
During the operation, authorities discovered the suspects, aged between 25 and 49, in the midst of removing fittings and other iron items. Among the targeted items were wires, frames, aluminium rods, and pipes. According to ACP Mohd Zaidi, the police believe that they have resolved at least two theft cases at construction sites since October 28th.
Furthermore, ACP Mohd Zaidi issued a warning to the general public, advising them against trespassing into construction sites to pilfer items. He emphasized that such acts could lead to arrests under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
