    KK-Penampang-Putatan outer ring road 80% complete, says Hajiji

    According to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, the 21.7km section of the Pan-Borneo Highway between Putatan and Inanam is close to 80% complete. The project, costing RM788,379,040.72, is part of the ongoing road packages under Phase 1 of the Pan-Borneo Highway in the state of Sabah. It is expected to be finished by November of this year.

    Hajiji explained that the new road will provide a link between the neighboring districts of Putatan, Penampang, and Kota Kinabalu City, serving as an outer ring road.

    During a site visit to the project, Hajiji was briefed on the progress of the road project by State Public Works Department (PWD) deputy director, Mohd Shamsul Nizam Abdul Wahid. The project includes the construction of three new bridges crossing Sungai Moyog and a Dry Bridge at Kampung Kolopis. It also includes three vehicular box culverts in Kampung Kolopis and Kampung Kitobu, as well as seven new interchanges at Putatan, Jalan NC Mogunting 1, Jalan NC Mogunting 2, Donggongon, Jalan Penampang Tambunan, and Bukit Padang, along with the 2.1km spur road to Bukit Padang.

    As of December 31, 2023, four packages under Phase One have been completed, including the Papar – Donggongon road, the Tawau – Semporna road, the Lahad Datu bypass, and the Kampung Lot M – Sandakan Mile 32 road. Another 11 work packages are still in progress, five packages are under the procurement process, and 15 work packages have yet to begin under Phase 1B.

    The Sabah Pan Borneo Highway project spans a total of 1,236 km and is being implemented in three phases. Phase 1 includes Sindumin – Kota Kinabalu – Kudat; Ranau – Mile 32 Sandakan; and Mile 32 Sandakan – Tawau (706km), while Phase 2 consists of Tamparuli – Ranau (98km) and Phase 3 comprises Tawau – Kalabakan – Keningau – Kimanis (432km). Deputy Chief Minister III cum Works Minister Datuk Shahelmy Yahya also accompanied Hajiji during his visit to the project site.
