KUALA LUMPUR: A foreigner was arrested just a few hours after escaping from a police vehicle along Jalan Kuching towards the city centre, here, last Saturday (July 29).

Now two policemen are being investigated for negligence.

City police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the suspect managed to wiggle his way out of his handcuffs while the vehicle was moving.

“The whole escape occurred within the span of 30 minutes and he was believed to have jumped out of the vehicle at around 12.50pm.

“We closed several roads to track down the suspect and recaptured him at around 9.20pm near the Medan Idaman Mosque, Setapak, here,” he told reporters on Monday (July 31).

He said at the time of the incident, the suspect was on his way back to the Wangsa Maju police Headquarters after a remand order was obtained at the Kuala Lumpur Central Lockup.

“The suspect was initially arrested for suspect robbery involvement.

“During interrogation, the suspect showed us how he managed to wiggle out of the handcuffs,” he said adding that they were now investigating the case under Sections 223 and 224 of the Penal Code.

He added that the police are now tracking the whereabouts of two of the suspect’s accomplices.
