THE second Kuala Lumpur Design Festival 2023 (KLDF2023) is scheduled to be held from October 6th to 15th. The festival aims to bring together local and international players in various design industries, including visual communication, interior design, and architecture design. The event will be hosted at iconic locations in Kuala Lumpur such as the Kuala Lumpur Library, Telekom Museum, River of Life waterfront in Masjid Jamek, Dataran Merdeka in Jalan Raja, and The Godown Arts Centre in Jalan Bukit Nanas.
The co-founder and director of KLDF, Muhammad Razif Nasruddin, stated that the festival intends to raise public awareness about the importance of product designs across different industries. Through forums and workshops, the festival aims to discuss design policies and their impact on sustainability. The participation of international players, including representatives from Indonesia, Japan, and potentially Thailand, will encourage the exchange of ideas among local and international design professionals.
Shafiqe Badril, co-founder and executive director of KLDF2023, mentioned that the event provides a platform for local designers to showcase their talents to a wider audience. Additionally, the festival aims to support start-up design firms by exposing them to potential clients and opportunities within their respective industries.
The theme of KLDF2023 is ‘Sustainable Intelligence.’ The festival will feature various activities such as conferences, trade fairs, exhibitions, performances, films, and art installations. Participants will need to register online for the performances and films about designs. Furthermore, art installations will be placed at selected public transportation stations to promote the KLDF2023 event.
This year, the festival was scheduled two months earlier, in October, as opposed to December in the previous year, to avoid the monsoon season. KLDF2023 is currently accepting participation from architects, academicians, artists, graphic and industrial designers, animators, data visualizers, and filmmakers.
