KUALA LUMPUR: Frontline workers involved in the search and rescue (SAR) operation for the sinkhole victim at Jalan Masjid India on Tuesday received 150 food packs donated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

His special officer, Arvend Applasamy, said the donation was made as a gesture of Ahmad Zahid’s concern for the dedication and sacrifices of the rescue team in the SAR operation for the missing Indian national.

“The purpose of the donation is to show appreciation for the hard work and contributions of the frontline workers who have been tirelessly involved in the search effort. On behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister, I would like to express gratitude to all those involved,” he told reporters at the scene.

The food packs from the Deputy Prime Minister were also extended to media personnel on site, who Arvend said played an essential role in delivering accurate information to the public about the incident.

Tuesday (Aug 27) marks the fifth day of the multi-agency SAR mission to locate the woman, known only as Vijayaletchumy, 48, who remains missing after falling into the sinkhole on Friday.

The SAR team has expanded their operations to six manholes around the capital city, including locations in front of Wisma Yakin, Jalan Melayu, the Jalan Melayu intersection, Dataran Merdeka, Lebuh Pasar, and Bulatan Kinabalu.

The victim fell into the eight-metre-deep sinkhole at 8:22am on Friday (Aug 23).
