KLANG: The Klang police have committed to conducting a transparent and fair investigation into an incident whereby a suspected drug dealer was subjected to physical assault while in police custody. The incident was captured in a video that was circulated via the Telegram mobile phone application. South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Cha Hoong Fong stated that the police became aware of the video at approximately 8am on Wednesday (Oct 11).
According to Asst Comm Cha, the incident unfolded at around 10.30am on August 2 within the offices of the Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) situated at the South Klang police headquarters. The matter was first reported by Inspector Azrin Yazid, leading to the initiation of an investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act pertaining to drug trafficking. The suspect was subsequently charged with the offense at the Klang Court on August 8.
Asst Comm Cha emphasized that the South Klang NCID will undertake further investigations into the viral video. He highlighted the gravity of the incident and stated that a thorough examination of the misconduct depicted in the video will be carried out. He also asserted that any personnel found to have violated the rule of law will not be granted any leniency.
ACP Cha reiterated the police’s commitment to conducting a transparent and impartial investigation into the incident, urging all parties to refrain from speculating on the matter.
