Flash floods have caused havoc in various parts of Klang, following heavy rainfall in the area.
Among the hardest hit areas is sections of Jalan Tengku Kelana, the location of the royal town’s Little India.
N. Thuraisingam, an employee at a restaurant in the vicinity, mentioned that the lower end of Jalan Tengku Kelana near Bulatan Simpang Lima experienced flooding.
“Fortunately, at this point, the upper section of Jalan Tengku Kelana has good water flow and is not affected by flooding,” he added.
Thuraisingam also explained that if the heavy rain continued, the entire stretch of Jalan Tengku Kelana could potentially be inundated.
The water in the flooded areas receded quickly once the intensity of the rain decreased.
According to the Auditor-General’s Report 2022, only half of the flood mitigation projects in Klang were deemed successful.
The report highlighted Jalan Tengku Kelana as one of the areas where the flood mitigation project effectively prevented flooding post-implementation.
Klang district officer Shahman Jalaludin had previously mentioned in an interview that various measures had been implemented since 2022 to alleviate flooding in the area.
He also emphasized that flood-prone areas in Klang were closely monitored by a dedicated flood mitigation task force to ensure timely maintenance activities.
