Water pipe replacement works are underway along a 3.1km stretch of Persiaran Raja Muda Musa in Port Klang, Selangor. The purpose of these works is to replace old and worn-out pipes. Workers can be seen digging trenches along the inner road to install the new pipes.
Many residents expressed satisfaction with the ongoing pipe replacement project. They have experienced water shortages lasting for hours or even a whole day whenever there are burst pipes. Aishah Sham, a 26-year-old sales assistant, welcomed the initiative and said it was long overdue to address the issue of burst pipes in the Kampung Raja Uda and Telok Gadong areas. She believes the new pipes will help resolve this recurring problem. Aishah’s statement is accompanied by an image of her standing next to the construction site.
Hafizi Zafferi, a 30-year-old resident, shared his opinion that having new water pipes will reduce water disruptions. Haliza Mohamad, a 50-year-old bakery owner, expressed her hope for better water quality without rust sediments and an end to disruptions caused by burst pipes.
Abas Abdullah, the acting CEO of Air Selangor, stated that the replacement of the ageing pipes will improve the efficiency of water supply. He also mentioned their objective of ensuring a clean and safe water supply for consumers, which will, in turn, reduce the non-revenue water rate in the Klang district. The replacement work, which began in August 2022, is expected to be completed by December of the same year.
Abas further explained that Air Selangor is laying new pipes that cover a distance of 6.2km. The aim is to enhance water distribution to around 20,000 households in areas such as Kampung Raja Uda, Telok Pulai, Telok Gadong, and certain parts of Port Klang.
