SEPANG: A woman has been apprehended in connection with a scam at the KL International Airport (KLIA), where a victim was reportedly swindled out of approximately RM4,000.
According to KLIA OCPD Asst Comm Imran Abd Rahman, the suspect approached the victim at level 3 of the airport on May 21 at around 2pm, under the pretense of seeking assistance to settle her excess baggage charges.
Claiming she would reimburse the victim through online banking, the suspect convinced the victim to hand over RM4,000 in cash. However, once the money exchanged hands, the suspect disappeared.
Following investigations, the police managed to apprehend the suspect on June 28 at level 5 of the airport. The investigation has been completed, and the case file has been forwarded to the Deputy Public Prosecutor.
ACP Imran disclosed that the suspect is expected to be charged at the Sepang Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (July 11), under Section 417 of the Penal Code.
Concerning this incident, ACP Imran urged the public to provide any relevant information on commercial crime cases. He emphasized the importance of cooperation from the public in combating scams within the district.
