KUALA LUMPUR: A fire broke out in Kampung India Settlement in Kampung Pandan, destroying at least five houses on Tuesday night. The incident occurred around 9.45pm, forcing the victims to flee to the main road for safety.
One of the victims, S Thulasi, recounted how she discovered the fire in her kitchen and quickly alerted her family. With seven people in the house at the time, they were unable to salvage any belongings. “I only had time to think about saving myself. Everything, including our identity cards, clothes, and important documents, was lost in the fire. My family and I are left with nothing,” she lamented.
According to a report by Bernama, five houses were completely destroyed by the fire, while another 10 were partially affected. The authorities dispatched four fire engines and three tanker lorries to extinguish the blaze.
Eye-witness A. Annuradah described the rapid spread of the fire, noting that the close proximity of the houses contributed to its fast-moving nature. Another witness, K Saravanakumar, observed the panicked residents running to safety, with only a few managing to salvage some of their belongings.
In light of the incident, Bernama has contacted the Fire and Rescue Department to provide an official statement on the fire and the extent of the damage caused.
