KUALA LUMPUR: The KTM Komuter service is currently experiencing disruptions and delays as a result of ongoing upgrading works for the Klang Valley Double Tracking (KDVT) Phase One and Two projects. According to KTMB Chief Corporate Officer Mohamed Suhaimi Yaacob, the upgrading works are taking a long time because the train services are still operational alongside the construction. Suhaimi explained that conducting both activities simultaneously has affected the scheduling, leading to the cancellation of some services. However, KTMB is constantly rescheduling and providing alternative services. Despite the disruptions, the frequency of Komuter trains during peak hours is currently set at 30-minute intervals and is expected to increase to 15-minute intervals once the upgrading works are completed.
The KDVT Phase One, which started in 2016, focuses on upgrading the systems from Rawang to Seremban and Sentul to Port Klang, covering an approximately 150km stretch. The project is anticipated to be finished by the end of this year. On the other hand, Phase Two of the KDVT project began earlier this year and involves the repair and upgrading of 265km of KTMB tracks, spanning from Salak Selatan to Seremban, and Kuala Lumpur to Port Klang. Completion of this phase is expected in 2027.
On Wednesday (Sept 13), a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between KTMB and AirAsia Ride. Following the signing, KTMB Chief Corporate Officer Mohamed Suhaimi and AirAsia Ride Regional Chief Executive Officer Lim Chiew Shan expressed their hopes for the collaboration. AirAsia Ride also announced a special promotion offering a RM3 discount per trip to and from 80 KTM stations in the Klang Valley and the Northern region, valid from Sept 13 to August 2024. Passengers are required to use the promotion code KTMRIDE. – Bernama
