A 59-year-old Korean woman has been struck by acute mountain sickness (AMS) while climbing Mount Kinabalu and was assisted down the mountain by rescuers. The Fire and Rescue Department’s Mountain Search and Rescue (Mosar) team was dispatched to KM6, Panalaban sick bay at the mountain after receiving the report at 9.04am on Friday (Aug 4). They were assisted by a mountain guide and two Sabah Parks officers, said a department spokesman. “The climber was given oxygen before she was carried down the mountain on a stretcher to Timpohon gate (mountain entrance). “She was then sent to the hospital for further treatment and the operation ended at 1.45pm,” added the spokesman.
In another case in Kota Belud, a 10-year-old girl suffered injuries after the car she was in collided with a 10-tonne lorry. The call came in at 3.09pm to report the incident that occurred at Bukit Kelawat there. “The girl was pulled out from the car by civilians before the Fire and Rescue Department team arrived and she was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. “After ensuring no more risks at the location, the operation ended at 3.35pm,” said the spokesman.
