The Kota Belud Integrated Agricultural Development Area (Iada) Complex could potentially be completed by 2027 if the tender process for the project is carried out and finalized this year, according to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup. He expressed this optimism during a visit to the Kota Belud district Iada office on Thursday (March 7).

In 2022, the government allocated RM36 million for the construction of the complex as part of efforts to enhance the functions of Iada and support the development of Sabah, specifically in the paddy farming sector in Kota Belud.

Arthur mentioned that the groundwork at the site has already been completed, and he is hopeful that the Sabah Public Works Department can initiate the tender process in 2024. If successful, the complex is expected to be ready by 2027, as stated in a press release following the visit.

The Deputy Minister also expressed his dedication to discussing strategies with the state Works Minister, Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, to expedite the tender process. He believes that the complex will not only be a significant symbol for the nation’s paddy and rice industry but also contribute to overall development in the area, including providing training opportunities and workshops for paddy growers to enhance their efficiency.

Arthur emphasized that the complex could serve as a training center for paddy growers to enhance their knowledge and skills, as well as a venue for workshops on agriculture machinery and related lab analysis. This inclusive approach aims to benefit the growers and facilitate their participation in developmental activities.

During the visit, Arthur interacted with paddy growers from the district and presented a mock cheque for the development of paddy fields, paddy machinery for the Kota Belud paddy growers cooperative, and funds for water pump purchases totaling RM707,772. It is estimated that around 600 paddy farmers in the area will benefit from these resources.
