KOTA KINABALU: City Hall here has repeated its intention of adopting a Friendship City agreement with China’s Changsha City in Hunan Province for economic, social and cultural exchange development.
Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah said the state government has given its nod to this proposal, but it has not been made official.
“This Friendship City proposal with Changsha city would benefit both parties in terms of economic growth, sustainable city developments, climate change management, tourism, cultural exchange, skills and management sharing among other things,” he said.
He said this after receiving a courtesy call from a delegation from the People’s Government of Changsha City, Hunan Province, China, on Tuesday (June 11).
Changsha municipal government deputy secretary-general Lu Xingying, had said how both cities could work together to create high-impact benefits for both parties.
He explained how Changsha City is known for its cultural heritage, tourism activities and modern machinery, among other aspects.
The Changsha delegation has been in Sabah for a three-day work visit since June 10, and they have visited several places including Sekolah Menengah (SM) All Saints, Kota Kinabalu and the Darau Wetland Eco Tourism.
This comes after City Hall representatives paid a courtesy call to Changsha Municipal People’s Government deputy mayor Gao Wenqi, on May 12 last year as a pre-discussion on this Friendship City proposal.
