KUALA LUMPUR: All OCPDs in Kuala Lumpur have been instructed to be more hands-on and be present on the ground, according to Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain. The KL police chief wants all OCPDs in the Federal Territory to actively engage with their officers and personnel.
In his speech after overseeing a handover ceremony at the state police headquarters on Monday (Aug 7), Comm Mohd Shuhaily stated, “I want all my OCPDs to be hands-on, not just giving orders. All officers and personnel must execute the vision and mission of the IGP and Deputy IGP, which focuses on integrity, good governance, and providing the best service to the people.”
SAC Habibi Majinji, who had previously held the post of Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief on an acting basis, handed over the position to Deputy Comm Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily emphasized the need for improvement in various aspects to better serve the public, saying, “After leading the police contingent for three months, there are still certain officers and personnel who resist change. We are always under public scrutiny, and therefore, we cannot afford to fail in our duties.
“If the Kuala Lumpur police fail, it will reflect poorly on the entire police force. However, I am pleased to note that there are those at the operational level who are willing to change,” he added.
Last week, the IGP announced that officers who live beyond their means will be identified. Comm Mohd Shuhaily declared, “I will not tolerate any wrongdoing or compromise when it comes to matters of integrity. Action will be taken against those involved.”
Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily stressed that change is inevitable and something that cannot be avoided. “We must work together to achieve success. I am confident that we can succeed if we embrace the spirit of change,” he said. He also acknowledged that leaders often have to make unpopular decisions, stating, “If you want to be popular, this is not the profession for you. Every decision must consider all aspects.”
Comm Mohd Shuhaily warmly welcomed DCP Azry to the KL Police Force, urging him to hit the ground running and highlighting the various challenges that come with the demanding job scope in KL.
