KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Terengganu MP Datuk Ahmad Amzad Hashim is upset with Mohd Sany Hamzan’s derogatory comments about the annulment of the 15th General Elections (GE15) results for his seat.
Ahmad Amzad (PN-Kuala Terengganu) stated that Mohd Sany (PH-Hulu Langat) made these “insulting comments” during the 12th Malaysia Plan mid-term-review debate on Wednesday (Sept 13), and the video of the incident has since gone viral.
Mohd Sany claimed that the election court nullified the GE15 results for the Kuala Terengganu seat due to corruption and money politics, and that Perikatan re-nominated the same candidate during the by-election.
Ahmad Amzad stated that Mohd Sany’s comments do not reflect the court’s judgment, as he was not found guilty of corruption.
“This is an insult to the court’s judgment and to me as the elected representative for Kuala Terengganu,” he expressed in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Sept 14).
He mentioned that the issue pertains to grants for a government program, and even the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner has confirmed the absence of graft.
He also requested Mohd Sany to retract his statement.
Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor, who presided over the session, suggested that Ahmad Amzad file a motion to address the matter.
Ahmad Amzad stated his intention to file a motion.
On June 27, the Terengganu Election Court invalidated the victory of Ahmad Amzad, who initially won the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat in November 2022.
Judge Mohd Firus Jaffril ruled that the petitioner, Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Mohd Zubir Embong, successfully proved the occurrence of corruption with the intention to influence voters in the constituency.
A by-election was subsequently conducted for the seat on Aug 12, wherein Ahmad Amzad emerged victorious over Azan Ismail of Pakatan Harapan.
