A private sector worker in Kuching has fallen victim to an online job scam, losing RM1.2 million in the process. The Sarawak police commissioner, Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri, revealed that the victim, who is in his 30s, was offered a part-time online job by a woman through an application on May 14. The man was promised returns and commissions for selling products offered on a website.
Between May 15 and July 13, the victim made 27 payment transactions to seven different bank accounts, totaling RM1.2 million. However, he only received a payment of RM20,000 and became suspicious when he stopped receiving the promised commissions.
Mohd Azman advised the public to be cautious of lucrative job offers on social media and not easily trust them.
This incident serves as a reminder to be vigilant and conduct thorough research before engaging in online job opportunities.
