    Labourer charged with murdering taxi driver

    A labourer has been charged at the Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Terengganu on Thursday (Aug 24) for the murder of a taxi driver. The incident took place in front of the Seberang Takir Health Clinic in Kuala Nerus earlier this month. The accused, who goes by the name Muhammad Hanif Mohd Rosli and is 29 years old, was understanding of the charge that was read to him. As the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court, no plea was recorded.

    Muhammad Hanif has been charged with the murder of Mohd Latif Idris, a 51-year-old taxi driver. The unfortunate incident happened between 10.09pm and 10.56pm on August 10. The charge against him falls under Section 302 of the Penal Code. A mention for the case has been fixed for September 27 by Magistrate Nik Mohd Tarmizie Nik Mohd Sukri.

    During the hearing, Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Khairuddin Idris handled the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Mohd Shahir Mat Jusoh.

    Prior to the court proceedings, the media had reported that a man was found dead in his taxi near the Seberang Takir Health Clinic on August 10. The victim, identified as Mohd Latif Idris, was discovered unconscious in the back seat. He had sustained several injuries to his body. On the other hand, Muhammad Hanif was found sitting in the driver’s seat when the authorities arrived at the scene. A knife was discovered on the floor mat under the driver’s seat, suspected to be the murder weapon.

    The Kuala Terengganu OCPD, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rahim Md Din, provided information about the incident to the media. He confirmed that the victim, Mohd Latif Idris, was found in an unconscious state, while the accused, Muhammad Hanif, was present in the driver’s seat.

    To further clarify, the accused, Muhammad Hanif Mohd Rosli, has been charged with a murder that occurred on August 10 in front of the Seberang Takir Health Clinic. No plea was recorded during the hearing at the Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Terengganu. The case has been scheduled for mention on September 27 at the High Court. Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Khairuddin Idris prosecuted the case, while lawyer Mohd Shahir Mat Jusoh represented the accused. It was previously reported by the media that the victim, Mohd Latif Idris, was found dead in his taxi near the health clinic on August 10. OCPD Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rahim Md Din confirmed that the victim was discovered unconscious in the back seat, while the accused was present in the driver’s seat with a knife found on the floor mat.
