LANGKAWI: Police are on the hunt for the individuals responsible for planting a package containing explosives, which caused injuries to a woman in Langkawi on Saturday (July 22).
According to Langkawi OCPD Asst Comm Shariman Ashari, the incident occurred at around 10am when the victim opened the package behind a restaurant at Jalan Pantai Cenang.
“At about 10.30am, we received information that a woman was injured after opening the package,” he stated.
ACP Shariman added that the victim, a UNHCR card holder, suffered injuries to her face and body.
The Bomb Squad and K9 police unit were immediately deployed to the location.
The victim, a 26-year-old woman who operated a food stall behind the restaurant, was then transported to Sultanah Maliha Hospital for treatment. She is currently conscious and in stable condition.
“We are uncertain about the number of suspects involved, but we are actively investigating the motive behind the incident,” said ACP Shariman.
He further mentioned that the case will be investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code.
