Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan has responded to Perikatan Nasional’s statement claiming that it can form the government if it wins the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state seats. Maslan, a member of the Umno supreme council, dismissed the claim and criticized Perikatan for not having the necessary number of seats to form a government. He pointed out that even if Perikatan wins in Pulai, they would only have 75 seats, far below the 112 seats required to rule the country. Similarly, if they win Simpang Jeram, their total seats in the state government would only be four against Barisan Nasional’s 40 seats and Pakatan Harapan’s 12 seats.
Maslan made these comments during a press conference after attending the Ceramah Kelompok programme at Taman Sri Kasih on August 28. He urged voters in the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state seats to vote for the government candidates, emphasizing the benefits of having a unity government that can easily connect with both the federal and state governments.
In the Pulai by-election, the candidates are former Johor state Speaker Suhaizan Kayat, Pulai Bersatu deputy chief Zulkifli Jaafar, and Independent candidate Kuala Lumpur Consumer Safety Association president Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi. Meanwhile, in the Simpang Jeram by-election, Bakri Amanah deputy chief Nazri Abdul Rahman is representing Pakatan, while Johor Perikatan committee member Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya and Independent candidate businessman S. Jeganathan are also competing.
The Election Commission has scheduled the by-elections for both seats on September 9, with early voting on September 5.
