The Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, has called on leaders of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah to ensure that the party is well-prepared for the upcoming state election in 2025. Hajiji, who is also the president of Gagasan Rakyat, emphasized the need to increase party membership and establish more branches in order to strengthen the party, which was officially launched earlier this year. He stated that Gagasan Rakyat currently has over 200,000 members and aims to have 300,000 members by the end of the year. Hajiji expressed confidence that the party will become a strong political force in the country once it holds its first general assembly in November.

In a meet-and-greet session with Gagasan Rakyat members in the Tawau and Kalabakan divisions, Hajiji stressed the importance of expanding the party’s membership and presence in all divisions of the state. He highlighted the significance of strengthening the party to face various political challenges and reiterated the party’s commitment to serving the people and promoting Sabah’s development. Hajiji also acknowledged the correctness of their decision to establish a local party, citing its positive implications for the future of the state. Gagasan Rakyat is the main party within the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state coalition, which is led by Hajiji and consists of seven members, including breakaway leaders from Sabah Barisan Nasional.

During the event, Hajiji welcomed new members from several state constituencies, including Balung, Apas, Sri Tanjung, Kukusan, Tanjung Batu, Merotai, and Sebatik. He recently confirmed that the GRS state government intends to complete its full five-year term and will not call for an early election in order to focus on the state’s development. Hajiji also expressed GRS’s intention to collaborate with its coalition partners, Pakatan Harapan and Barisan, under the federal unity government in the state elections. However, it should be noted that Parti Warisan, which is part of the federal unity government, remains opposed to the GRS state government at the state level.
