    Loan shark runner pleads guilty to crime

    IPOH: A runner for a loan shark has pleaded guilty to six charges of splashing red paint on six properties.

    Chee Wei Leong, 44, was charged in two Magistrate’s Courts here yesterday.

    In the first court, Chee pleaded guilty to two charges under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief before magistrate S. Punitha.

    The offence under Section 427 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between one and five years, a fine or both, upon conviction.

    For the first charge, Chee admitted he had splashed red paint on the gate of a house in Kampung Baru Bukit Merah, Lahat, and caused damage costing RM500 to the victim. It happened at 6.01am on July 13.

    For this, he was fined RM2,000 in default of four months’ jail.

    For the second charge, Chee admitted he had splashed paint on a house in Taman Utama, Bercham, at 7am on July 8. This earned him a year in jail from the date of arrest on July 15.

    The case was prosecuted by deputy public prosecutor Nurul Hidayu Zakaria, while Chee was represented by lawyer Nor Izawani Ahmad Jalaludin from the National Legal Aid Foundation.

    In the second Magistrate’s Court, Chee pleaded guilty to four counts of splashing red paint on different houses between June 3 and July 13.Magistrate Noor Azreen Liana Mohd Darus set the mention date on Oct 18 for facts and sentencing.

    She fixed bail at RM2,000 for each charge.

    Deputy public prosecutor Nuranisah Ismah Muhammad Husaini had earlier requested for bail to be set at RM5,000 for each charge.

    Lawyer Ng Yun Khong from the National Legal Aid Foundation said Chee is married with two children and also has to look after his elderly mother.
