KUALA TERENGGANU: The Local Government Development, through the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp), has introduced a new digital recycling application called i-Kitar in an effort to enhance the convenience of recycling.

Deputy Minister Akmal Nasarullah Mohd Nasir revealed that the application was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation as part of their initiative to promote recycling practices within the community.

He also mentioned that a People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Kuala Terengganu has been chosen as the pilot location for the implementation of this application. The effectiveness and efficiency of i-Kitar will be assessed before expanding it to other PPRs.

“One of the key advantages of the i-Kitar application is that it provides users with the opportunity to earn money through recycling activities,” he stated during the launch event at PPR Hiliran on September 30.

Additionally, Akmal Nasarullah shared that as of August, a total of 109,701.35kg of goods worth RM32,910.40 had been recycled through the Zero Waste Community (KOSIS) program in 17 PPRs across the country.

The program, which involved 55,344 residents residing in 13,586 units within these 17 PPRs, including PPR Lembah Subang 2 in Selangor, PPR Hiliran in Kuala Terengganu, PPR Gua Musang in Kelantan, and PPR Tehel in Melaka, aims to address waste disposal concerns and provides residents with an opportunity to generate extra income.

“For instance, residents of PPR Hiliran have managed to earn RM37,253.20 from recycling food waste and cooking oil between 2020 and August of this year,” he revealed. – Bernama
