KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, the Health Minister, announced that locum doctors in public healthcare facilities will now receive their allowance of RM80 per hour immediately.
The issue, which had caused distress among doctors working locum hours in public healthcare facilities, has now been resolved.
The Minister stated, “We have looked into the matter and have finally obtained government approval to pay all doctors working locum hours in public healthcare facilities RM80 per hour right away.”
“This is great news and the payments will be processed without delay. We consider this matter resolved,” he told the media on Friday (Feb 23) after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Health Ministry and IHH Healthcare for cancer patient care.
Previously, doctors working locum hours at public facilities had expressed frustration over not receiving their due payments despite working extra hours on Saturdays and public holidays.
Last year, the Health Ministry had mentioned that medical officers required to work on Saturdays and public holidays were eligible for locum allowance, while those working from 9am to 1pm on Sundays could apply for replacement leave through their respective department heads.
