IPOH: Both a container lorry and a goods lorry have been involved in an accident on the North-South Expressway (NSE) near Tapah, causing both vehicles to plummet off a bridge at KM366 northbound.

Datuk Seri Comm Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, the Perak police chief, revealed that the incident occurred at 7am on Thursday (Aug 3) and resulted in the goods lorry driver sustaining severe injuries after both vehicles fell approximately 15m.

In his statement, Comm Mohd Yusri explained, “The container lorry, which was transporting various goods and destined for Ipoh, fell into a tributary, while the goods lorry landed on some shrubs. It appears that the accident happened when the goods lorry lost control and collided with the parked container lorry, which had come to a stop due to a mechanical issue.”

The goods lorry driver is currently receiving medical treatment at Hospital Tapah for serious chest injuries, while the other driver escaped unharmed,” he added.

Comm Mohd Yusri stated that the incident is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act, which pertains to negligent driving or driving without consideration for others. He urged individuals with any information about the accident to contact the police or the investigating officer Insp P Prathiparaj at 014-617 8095. Comm Mohd Yusri also reminded motorists to exercise caution and display courtesy while driving to prevent further accidents.
