A lorry driver has been detained for five days for further investigation after a fatal seven-vehicle collision on Jalan Lintas in Kota Kinabalu. Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Mohd Zaidi Abdullah stated that the 52-year-old man will remain in police custody until August 27.

The remand order commenced on August 24, according to Abdullah. Additionally, the lorry will be sent to the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) for examination, he added on August 25.

Nicolette Hannah George, a 26-year-old local woman, was killed at the scene of the incident on August 22 when she was crushed by the lorry in the multiple vehicle pile-up, which occurred at approximately 6pm. Firefighters extracted her body from a car, and she was pronounced dead by a medical officer.

Aside from the lorry, the mishap involved another lorry and four other cars. The incident, which was captured on a motorist’s dashboard camera, quickly circulated on social media on the same day.

Luyang assemblyman Phoong Jin Zhe expressed his close monitoring of the case’s developments and stated that he had been informed about the driver’s remand order. He further reported that he had followed up with the relevant authorities to ensure the prevention of similar incidents in the future.

Phoong Jin Zhe shared his hopes for justice to be served on his Facebook account. Furthermore, the Sabah Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister visited the deceased woman’s family during the wake held at their residence in Kampung Babah Bunduon in Penampang, near Kota Kinabalu, prior to the burial on August 25.
