A woman in Kuala Lumpur has been arrested for filing a fake police report in an attempt to avoid fines for losing her MyKad identification card.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail stated that the 24-year-old woman lodged a police report on July 28 claiming that she had been a victim of a snatch theft at approximately 5 pm that day.

She stated that she was approached by a suspect on a motorcycle who snatched her handbag containing personal belongings. She also claimed that the incident took place while she was riding pillion on her boyfriend’s motorcycle.

In a statement released on July 31, ACP Azam announced that the woman has been remanded for four days until August 1 to assist in investigations under Section 182 of the Penal Code.

According to the mentioned section, if found guilty, the suspect can face a jail term of up to six months, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

The public is warned against making false reports to avoid fines imposed by the National Registration Department for replacing lost identification documents. – Bernama
