PONTIAN: Family members and friends began paying their final respects to the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub at his mother’s residence in Kampung Serkat, Tanjung Piai, starting at 7am on Monday (July 24).

The first to arrive at 7.20am was Muar MP and Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, followed by Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman, both there to bid farewell to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, who passed away on Sunday (July 23) night.

The late Salahuddin’s close family members were also in attendance.

The body of the Pulai MP arrived at the Senai International Airport cargo terminal at approximately 2.30am.

Accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Fatimah Taha and Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Salahuddin’s body was then taken to the home of his mother, Aminah Abdullah, 83, at 3.35am.

Salahuddin, aged 61, passed away at 9.23pm on Sunday at the Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar, following surgery for a brain hemorrhage the previous day.

On Monday, Johor state Speaker Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi expressed his sadness over Salahuddin’s death and extended his condolences to the family of the Simpang Jeram assemblyman via a Facebook post.

“I pray that his soul will be blessed by Allah and be placed in heaven. He was a long-time friend in my political journey.

“In politics, we were adversaries but not enemies. He visited my office several times during the Johor assembly sessions. May Allah forgive him for his sins,” said the Rengit assemblyman in his post. – Bernama
