KUALA LUMPUR: A landslip that occurred on the (Westbound) East Coast Expressway (LPT1) from KM118.2 to KM117.8 is believed to have been caused by the collapse of an embarkment slope where flood mitigation work is taking place.
The Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, has instructed the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) and those involved in the mitigation work to immediately conduct repairs at the landslip location. He made this known in a Facebook post on Sunday (Sept 10), where he stated that he had already been in contact with the LLM director-general, Sazali Harun, and demanded a comprehensive report be prepared and submitted without delay. He also emphasized the need to monitor the area where the landslip had occurred to prevent any future incidents.
Furthermore, Nanta stressed the importance of implementing a contingency plan or mitigation strategy that will be consistently monitored to ensure the safety of road users.
Additonally, the Works Minister advised motorists to avoid or delay using the affected route, or to temporarily utilize alternative roads in order to prevent any unfortunate incidents.
Earlier on Sunday, ANIH Bhd, the concession holder of the East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1), confirmed that a landslip had resulted in road cracks between KM118.2 and KM117.8 along the westbound lane in Temerloh.
As a response, ANIH has closed the emergency and left lanes of the affected route and has implemented a contraflow system from KM116.5 to KM119.4. – Bernama
