KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained an assistant to a company owner as part of its investigation into rare earth elements (REE) mining in Kedah.
Sources stated that the man, who is in his 50s, was arrested at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya around 10pm on Thursday (July 20).
On Friday morning (July 21), a remand application was submitted to the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court.
Magistrate M. Mageshwary granted a four-day remand order until July 24.
Meanwhile, at the same court, the MACC also secured a two-day remand extension for a female company director until July 23.
The sources revealed that the woman had previously been remanded for three days, with the Kedah Mentri Besar Incorporated chief executive officer being released on the same day.
When contacted, MACC investigation division senior director Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim confirmed the latest arrest and stated that the investigation was being conducted under Section 17 and Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
