Three police officers in Johor Baru have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly taking bribes from lorry drivers. The suspects, aged between 36 and 42, were apprehended at the Johor MACC office on Wednesday evening.
According to sources, the officers are accused of demanding bribes amounting to RM7,800 from drivers of oil palm and fertiliser lorries in the Mersing area. The bribes were allegedly given in November last year to avoid enforcement action under the Road Transport Act 1987.
Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed that the three suspects are being investigated under Section 17a of the MACC Act 2009. They are expected to appear in the Magistrate’s Court for a remand order on Thursday morning.
