PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has denied allegations that it did not issue a notice to Datuk Justin Lim Hwa Tat, stating that attempts were made to serve the notice. MACC officers visited two of Lim’s residences in Kuala Lumpur on June 25, only to find that one had been sold and he no longer lived in the other. The agency also went to his offices in the capital and Johor, but Lim was not present.
According to the MACC, checks with the Immigration Department revealed that Lim had left the country in February and had not returned to Malaysia since. On July 12, the MACC released a media statement containing the contact details of the investigation officer, which it deemed to be an official notice.
“The MACC is ready to face any legal action from Lim on this matter,” said the agency in a statement on Monday. “However, the CEO of Sersol Bhd must first come forward and cooperate with our investigation into a case.”
The MACC had announced on July 12 that it was searching for Lim to assist in a false claims case. However, Lim stated that he did not receive any notice from the agency and disputed their claims that they had attempted to serve the notice at his workplace or residence. He also claimed that no MACC officers had approached him for assistance in their investigations.
In a statement released on July 23, Lim said, “Such a publication could give the false impression that I am evading or avoiding cooperation with the authorities, which is certainly not the case. To set the record straight, I have been away on business since early February 2023. Despite my absence, I have every intention of fully cooperating with the authorities in any matter where my assistance is required.”
Lim urged the MACC to refrain from making any further misleading statements that could damage his reputation and integrity. He also announced that he has appointed Messrs Gobind Singh Deo & Co. as his legal representative during the investigations.
