PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has clarified that a media statement supposedly issued by them “seeking information on former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin and former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad” is fake. The MACC made this statement in a post on its Facebook page on Friday (Feb 9).
The fake media statement was produced with the commission’s letterhead, which is commonly issued by the commission to the media. It falsely claimed that the MACC was seeking public help for information for its investigation on Daim and Mahathir for money laundering and failing to declare their assets.
In addition to falsely seeking information, the fake statement also offered a RM100,000 reward to anyone who provided information that could help in the investigations against the duo.
