PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has met with former education minister Dr Maszlee Malik on the 1BestariNet issue.

According to sources, the investigating officer arranged the meeting last week.

“The officer met Maszlee to get further information on the issue,” Sinar Harian reported on Sunday (Sept 29).

“Investigations are still ongoing, and the MACC is in the process of retrieving relevant documents and statements from several individuals,” said the source.

However, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki did not reveal further information when connected by Sinar Harian, citing that investigations were ongoing.

On Sept 6, Maszlee stated that issues involving 1BestariNet were one of the factors he resigned as Education Minister in January 2020.

In the statement, Maszlee said the then Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad told him to do so (resign) at the request of Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

On Sept 26, Azam said the investigations would examine the RM4.07bil 1BestariNet service tender involving the Education Ministry.

He said the investigation would determine if the 8,000 schools involved were supplied with the deliverables specified in the contract.
