MELAKA: The CEO of a state-owned company was taken into custody after allegedly providing false information about the value of two vehicles that were supposed to be disposed of through a tender process.
The director of the Melaka Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Mohd Shahril Che Saad, reported that the 46-year-old suspect was apprehended when he arrived at MACC headquarters in Alai on Thursday (Nov 2) at 2:45 pm to give a statement.
It is believed that the suspect intentionally underestimated the value of a Toyota Fortuner 2.5G and a Toyota Hilux 2.5G, in contrast to an earlier official valuation by the Public Works Department (PWD) on April 19.
Mohd Shahril further explained that the suspect allegedly manipulated the actual costs of the vehicles in order to deceive the board of directors and acquire the automobiles for personal use.
The suspect will appear in the Magistrate’s Court in Melaka on Friday (Nov 3) in order to obtain a remand order. The remand order is required to facilitate the ongoing investigation, which is being conducted under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 and Section 471 of the Penal Code.
