PUTRAJAYA: Four individuals, including a former political secretary, have been arrested by graft investigators on suspicion of accepting bribes from companies and contractors who were awarded tenders from a certain ministry.
Sources familiar with the investigation stated that the four suspects are believed to have accepted bribes from companies who secured jobs worth millions of ringgit.
It is alleged that the offence took place between 2020 and 2021.
According to reports, the main suspect in this case was the former political secretary of a former minister, who is thought to have demanded and accepted bribes to ensure that tenders were awarded to “successful” contractors.
The suspects were apprehended on Tuesday (Jan 23) night when they were summoned to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters, while another was arrested in Shah Alam.
Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin granted a four-day remand for three of the suspects, until Jan 27.
Another suspect was remanded for three days starting Wednesday (Jan 24).
Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman, the MACC senior director of special operations, confirmed the arrests and stated that the case was under Section 16 of the MACC Act.
Azmi did not rule out the possibility of several more individuals being called in to assist with the investigation.
